I was so lucky to attend 2 weekend mosaic workshops at Marvelous Fine Mosaic at Deer Island, Oregon with Kory Dollar. She is a true master of her craft of glass on glass mosaics . Venue was welcoming and eclectic . Being with like-minded artisans was an experience I will always treasure. . I gained so much knowledge and exponentially enhanced my cutting skills. Having the right tools makes all the difference in your cuts. Both pieces are about 12” square , each completed in two and half days during a weekend retreat.
Playing with Fusing
Because it’s quick and easy when the Glass and Kiln Gods are cooperating, have been playing with my kiln. Size are 6” square.
I Need a Name
Completed this piece in a jiffy. Unbelievable how things just flow when the planets are in alignment. I had these Santa’s for years and in trying to downsize my supplies, I decided to make something with them. The background and edges were completed first as well as all the grouting. The porcelain ceramic Santa’s were placed on a piece of white stained glass cut into a triangle to used as a base. They are attached with epoxy sculpt. The pearls and jewelry bits are attached with MAC glue. And the Name became: Holiday Joy
Shara’s Shapes
Trying my hand at beads and jewelry within a form. Using epoxy sculpt and MAC glue.
Mosaic aDress
We shall see how this piece holds up. Hand made form using sculpting mesh, wire and rigid wrap. Alas, not one of my vest attempts. The bejeweled hip ornament is hand made with wire, mirror and jewelry. The remaining tesserae is glass tiles, ceramic tiles, and Cinco tiles.
Series of Pans
Series of Upcycled pans using Cheeky fusions which I have had for over 10 years. Other tesserae includes: stained glass, mirror glass and glass/ ceramic tiles.
Blumin' Mosaic Panels
These two panels are 18” x 12” and have been made from leftovers in my studio. They are made with a plethora of materials I had on hand. I was determined not to BUY anything and to work with what I had. The panels were a bit difficult to grout, as the flower petals are raised as they are cut from plates. After grouting and cleaning, I added the jewelry, beads and rhinestones for added dimension and visual interest. The yellow flowers encircled with millefiori are jewelry purchased at Michael’s and painted with glass paint. They were also added after grouting as they are sitting atop a piece of mirror. Glass fusions I made in my kiln are the flower centers, as well as the triangular shapes at the flowers’ center. Background is stained glass and the piece is edged in and rimmed with glass tiles. They were donated to St. Joseph the Worker CraftFest to be held November 2023 as an auction item.
A Dress is a Dress with Updated Waistband
So after about 5 different designs and applications, I settled for this waistband. Not permanent. It will work for now.
A Dress is a Dress
Decorative metal dress form purchased at Hobby Lobby and covered with sculpting mesh and rigid wrap. Substrate is over 10 years old. Inspired the design of my tiled clay garden pot series. The flower at the waistline is an after thought and will be changed out in time. Ideas must percolate.
CCRA 2023 Curlyville
Basket raffle donations. 12 “ squarish. Primarily smalti. Inspired by the work of Heather Galler folk artist. Curliest are either brown or boack . I am lucky to own o e of each, Penny and Darcy. Let’s just say on the gray scale they are DARK. So I bailed and did color.
Mosaic for CCRA
What a process. 14 hours of work and here is what I have accomplished thus far. First the sketch. Second, the Color study using Gray scale. And finally the transfer of image to substrate.
More WIP
I am going to add to my collection of shoes. These are a size 15 men’s shoes and a size 6 ladies. Currently adding layers of rigid wrap! I knew the products name would come to me. The men’s shoes have a cylinder of sculpting wire inside for added support because the leather was very soft and floppy.
WIP
I am currently working on a dress form I made about 10 years ago using a decorative wrought iron stand I bought at Hobby Lobby. Using sculpting wire and a elastoplast/ cast like material. ( real name escapes me at the moment🤣) Using Lexel as the glue and it’s been a challenge placing square tiles in positions that should really be keystoned. Painters tape is holding tiles in place. I am clueless as to what to do with the rest of it.
RepurPosed Cookie Trays
These two cookie trays were destined to the trash bin. They are quite heavy duty with years of use. Not much flex, but I added some large tiles to the back to give some more support. Tesserae includes: glass tiles/ gems, virtuous tiles, mirror glass, glass fusions, and ceramic tiles. For outdoor installation.
CONCLUSION of Pot Series
I had so many tiles leftover from past projects. Here are the final results. The largest ones are very heavy.
Mosaic Hearts
Not much to say here. Did not turn out as expected but that’s ok.
Pots and More Pots
Leftovers from past projects.
Andrea’s Mirror Complete
Working with transparent smalti attached to mirror was a challenge. I used MAC glue which dried quickly but did have the quick grab ai had hailed for. Patience is important.
WIP
Andrea Greene, an Aunt of a good friend, gave me this mirror years ago. I recycled it into a mosaic. First, I painted the frame and went from there. Working with transparent smalti is a bit of a challenge. Size is about 12” x 13”.
Fifteen Hearts
Finally completed after four months of work. Size is 15” x 28”.
